(YEI) – A high level delegation from the European Union to South Sudan has visited Yei River County and held discussions with the County Commissioner, Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, to explore possible partnerships under the Reconciliation, Stabilization and Resilience Trust Fund (RSRTF) Project.
The delegation was led by Carla Atzeni, Programme Officer for Migration, Displacement, Return and Reintegration at the EU Mission. Atzeni noted that the visit aimed to identify opportunities for stronger collaboration with the county authorities to support durable solutions for affected communities in the region.
After the meeting, Commissioner Taban told the County Press that the visit by the EU representative marked an important milestone for the local government. He said such high level engagement opens avenues for funding and project support that could help advance the county’s development objectives.
He further explained that visits by international partners like the EU not only bring opportunities for financial assistance but also help strengthen institutional partnerships and raise the county’s profile among international donors.
The RSRTF is a multi-donor fund managed by the United Nations in support of stabilisation, peacebuilding and recovery efforts in conflict affected areas of South Sudan.
Projects under the RSRTF typically focus on reintegration, resilience and community infrastructure, and are considered essential to long term stability in fragile areas like Yei.
If successful, Yei River County may stand to benefit from targeted investments in areas such as local governance, service delivery, infrastructure rehabilitation and support for returnees and displaced persons.
Commissioner Taban expressed optimism that this engagement could unlock much needed resources for the county’s recovery process.
Given current funding constraints in many counties across South Sudan, such external partnerships are seen as vital for supplementing limited domestic resources.
