GIZ Boosts Mechanized Farming with Tractor Repair Equipment in Yei

(YEI RIVER COUNTY)– Farmers in Yei River County are expected to benefit from improved tractor services following the donation of garage tools and maintenance equipment to the Yei Crop Training Centre by the German development agency, GIZ.

The support, provided through the Community-Driven Rural Development (CDRD) project, is aimed at strengthening tractor repair and maintenance services to support land preparation ahead of upcoming planting seasons.

According to GIZ, the donation includes an air compressor, a mobile diesel welding generator, mechanical toolboxes, and personal protective equipment. The equipment will be used to service and carry out field repairs for eight tractors operating across Yei County.

Speaking to Access Radio on Friday, Barakat Amule David, a trainer at the Yei Crop Training Centre, said the equipment will help improve mechanised farming and increase agricultural production in the county.

“This equipment is going to play a big role in Yei. It will reduce the cost of farming because farmers will no longer need to travel to Juba or Uganda for tractor maintenance. This will help farmers receive timely services, boost production, and make use of this centre, which is set to support them,” he said.

Local agricultural stakeholders say improved access to tractor maintenance services is expected to reduce operational costs for farmers while increasing efficiency in land preparation and crop production across the county.
