OFAO Seeks County Approval for Community-Led Development Plans in Yei

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Organization for Agricultural Opportunities (OFAO) has presented community-driven rural development and disaster risk management plans to Yei River County authorities for endorsement under its Community-Driven Rural Development (CDRD) Project.

The plans, developed by Boma Development Committees (BDCs) and Disaster Risk Management Committees (DRMCs), were presented during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by more than 30 participants, including county officials, community leaders and development partners.

Yei River County Executive Director Hillary Lokudu Muhammed welcomed the initiative, saying the plans would help guide development activities and strengthen community participation at the Boma level.

OFAO’s Executive Director Hakim John James said the project promotes community-led development and disaster risk management through participatory approaches that support rural livelihoods and resilience.

The programme is being implemented in Pokula, Minyori and Gimunu Bomas, where OFAO is working with local leaders and community structures to improve development planning, resource mobilisation and disaster preparedness.

According to OFAO Programme Officer Peter Mbale, the plans will be submitted to county authorities for formal endorsement before implementation.

The CDRD project supports climate-resilient agriculture, food and nutrition security, sustainable natural resource management and climate change adaptation in rural communities.
