Yei Town Water Company to Hand Over Management to Local Government

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) — The management of Yei Town Water and Sanitation Services has announced plans to transfer control of its operations to the local government, marking a significant step toward locally managed water services.

The urban underground water facility was established with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to deliver clean and reliable water to residents of Yei. The planned transition is intended to enable independent operation under the oversight of local authorities.

Mawa Robert, a senior official at the water company, said efforts are ongoing to expand water access across Yei Town. He added that the company has been providing free water to residents in the Gimunu area as part of a community support initiative.

Yei River County Executive Director Hillary John Konga welcomed the move and assured the water management team of continued cooperation between the county administration and facility managers.

County officials say the handover is expected to strengthen local oversight and improve service delivery for residents throughout Yei River County.

The remarks were made on Monday during a meeting at the county headquarters, where the Yei Town Water Management team and county leadership reviewed operational progress and discussed challenges affecting water supply in the town.
