(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo has called on the Yei Health Training Institute to introduce scholarship opportunities aimed at attracting more students into the medical profession.
Speaking during a meeting with officials from the institute at the county headquarters on Tuesday, Commissioner Malimbo said scholarships would help improve access to education and address the county’s acute shortage of healthcare workers.
He stressed that close cooperation between the county administration and the training institution is essential for building sustainable and effective local health services in Yei River County.
In response, the Principal of the Yei Health Training Institute, Kuol Ajok, welcomed the county government’s support and pledged to work together on initiatives aimed at strengthening the health sector.
Commissioner Malimbo also revealed that a government task force is expected to visit Yei soon to assess the possible establishment of a university in Yei.
He said the team will inspect facilities previously used by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) as potential premises for the proposed institution.
