Road Construction Project in Lainya County
(LAINYA COUNTY) — A prominent civil society leader in Central Equatoria State has expressed support for Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony’s recently announced infrastructure development plans for Lainya County and Wonduruba Administrative Payam.
The ambitious development package, unveiled by Governor Adil on May 8 during the Pojulu Cultural Festival, aims to improve connectivity and strengthen essential service delivery in the area.
Among the key projects announced are the rehabilitation of major feeder roads, including the Loka-Birigo, Limbe-Mukaya, and Lainya-Bereka-Wonduruba routes.
The plans also include the construction of the Lainya Airstrip and the strengthening of rural cooperative societies to support local economic growth.
The state government further announced plans to upgrade the Lainya Primary Health Care Center into a full hospital in an effort to address healthcare challenges facing residents in the county.
Wani Edward, Secretary General of the Lainya County Civil Society Network, welcomed the initiatives and called on the state government to ensure their timely implementation.
He said improved roads would enhance development and ease service delivery within the communities.
“We welcome the move and as civil society, we advocate for the implementation of these development projects because roads are good for development and service delivery,” Edward said. “We shall monitor the progress and challenges of these projects.”
Edward also stressed the importance of upgrading the health facility, noting that many pregnant women are still referred to hospitals in Yei for delivery services.
He said the planned hospital would greatly improve access to healthcare for residents in Lainya County.
“Pregnant mothers are still being referred to Yei hospital for delivery, and it will be of great importance if these plans are implemented.”
In addition to infrastructure and healthcare, the civil society leader appealed to the state government and the Ministry of Education to prioritize the rehabilitation and reopening of Loka Secondary School to support education opportunities for young people in the area.
Governor Adil said the projects demonstrate the state government’s commitment to inclusive development and equitable distribution of services across Central Equatoria State.
