(MOROBO / YEI / LAINYA) – A civil society leader in Morobo County is calling on newly appointed commissioners in Yei River County, Lainya County, and Morobo County to prioritize civilian protection and service delivery in their new roles.
Earlier this week, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, Governor of Central Equatoria State, urged the commissioners to focus on improving security and ensuring freedom of movement for civilians in both urban and rural areas.
Mawa Manase, head of the civil society network in Morobo County, told Access Radio that communities are urgently calling for peace, stability and access to basic services.
“The outcry of the civilians day and night is for peace, freedom of movement, and freedom of expression. As the new leaders take office in Morobo, Lainya, and Yei, they must prioritize peace and security and address the immediate needs of the people to restore hope and bring visible change,” Mawa said.
He also encouraged the new commissioners to build on development plans initiated by their predecessors to ensure continuity in service delivery.
Meanwhile, during the swearing-in ceremony on Monday, Huda Micha Laila, Commissioner of Lainya County, expressed commitment to improving services at the grassroots level.
“We are with the people at the grassroots, and our challenges are even greater than those in Juba. As leaders, we will work closely with chiefs, church leaders, and vulnerable groups. We seek support from the Governor to reduce the movement of people from counties to Juba in search of services,” she said.
Huda noted that many residents have migrated to Juba, refugee camps, and even the diaspora due to limited access to essential services in their home counties.
The call from civil society underscores growing expectations for improved governance, peace, and development across Central Equatoria’s counties.
