(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Department of Labor and Public Service in Yei River County has announced new employment procedures aimed at protecting and improving job opportunities for young people and the local community.
This development follows concerns raised last week by youth leaders over hiring practices by organizations operating in the area. The leaders called for more transparent and fair recruitment processes.
The concerns were discussed during a meeting between the Yei River County Youth Association and the County Department of Labor, where both parties addressed employment challenges affecting local youth.
Bibi Robert Onesmo, Director of Labor in Yei County, told Access on Wednesday that the department has introduced new recruitment and monitoring tools to tackle employment irregularities.
He explained that all job applicants will now be required to pass through the labor office for certification and registration.
“All job applicants should go through us. We issue labor certification cards, validate and register applications, and monitor interviews. The labor office will also be part of the interview panel. We follow up through phone call verification. This is the process we have decided to implement,” Bibi said.According to Bibi, the office has received multiple complaints from job seekers who claim that some employment opportunities are being given to individuals from outside the county. He urged employers to comply with labor laws and prioritize qualified local candidates for both junior and senior positions. Meanwhile, Yei River County Youth Leader Gaga Frank called on the labor department to ensure strict enforcement of these regulations.
“We want NGOs to consider recruiting locals and provide equal opportunities. We are not saying others should not work in Yei, but positions meant for local people should be given to them. We don’t want to see locals being marginalized,” Frank stated. The new measures are expected to promote fairness, transparency, and increased access to employment for residents of Yei River County.
