(YEI RIVER COUNTY ) – A new vocational center has officially opened in Yei River County with the aim of equipping young people with practical skills to help reduce unemployment in the area.
The institute, known as Yei Training Institute, was launched in the presence of community and religious leaders from across the county on Tuesday.
Speaking during the launch, co-founder Ludoru Moses said the initiative was established in response to growing concerns over youth idleness and the lack of employable skills among young people.
“I am the co-founder of this Yei Training Institute, and the motivation behind starting this institute is to address the issue of youth lacking skills. We often complain that our youth are idle and do not have practical skills they can use to earn a living. That is why we have come up with this institute to provide vocational skills that can give them the right opportunities in different fields,” he said.
Moses explained that the overall goal of the institute is to empower young people to become economically self-reliant and productive members of society.
However, he acknowledged that the institution is facing challenges, particularly in mobilizing financial resources.
“The major challenge we are facing is resource mobilization, especially capital. But the positive thing is that we have enough South Sudanese with the knowledge and capacity to deliver these skills to our youth,” he added.
The principal of the institute, David Bidali Joseph, said the center is ready to begin operations and urged young people to embrace vocational training as a viable pathway to success.
“Education is powerful. We need knowledge in our country. It is not only about becoming a university graduate, a medical doctor, or a lawyer. These are important professions, but vocational training is also necessary. We must encourage our young people to acquire knowledge and practical skills,” Bidali said.
He further called on parents to enroll their children in vocational programs and encouraged youth to avoid criminal activities by focusing on building their future through education and skills development.
Residents who attended the launch expressed hope that the new institute will create employment opportunities, reduce idleness among youth, and contribute to the economic growth and stability of the area.
The establishment of Yei Training Institute is seen as a positive step toward strengthening livelihoods and promoting self-reliance among young people in Yei River County.
