(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – More than two hundred students have graduated from Yei Vocational Training Institute after completing several months of technical training, a development seen as an important boost to youth skills and employment in the area.
The graduation ceremony was held last Friday, where a total of 200 students received certificates. The graduates included 111 males and 89 females who completed courses in building construction, electrical installation, driving and tailoring.
The Principal of Yei Vocational Training Institute, Morris Logulomo, urged the graduates to put their skills into practice and use them responsibly to support development. He encouraged them to remain committed to quality work despite the challenges they may face.
“There are challenges out there, and as you go through these challenges, use the skills you have gained and respect your work through transparency, accountability and excellence,” Mr Logulomo said.
He added that technical skills provide opportunities for self employment and can help young people contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider economy.
The Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Bishop Levi Marandulu Yepete, also addressed the graduates, encouraging them to maintain high professional standards in their work and personal conduct.
He said the graduates should demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, honesty and hard work, while also upholding strong moral values as they enter the labour market.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating students, Kennedy Lumori Martin expressed gratitude to the institute’s administration, development partners, parents and guardians for their support throughout the training period.
“We thank the administration of Yei Vocational Training Institute, our partners, parents and guardians who supported us during this difficult economic situation facing South Sudan,” Mr Lumori said.
He further called on partners to continue supporting skills training programmes for young people in Yei River County, saying such initiatives are key to reducing poverty in rural areas.
“We urge our partners to keep supporting young people in Yei through skills empowerment so that we can fight poverty in the countryside,” he added.
The graduation comes at a time when South Sudan continues to face economic challenges and high youth unemployment. Local leaders say vocational training remains a practical pathway for young people to gain income generating skills and support community recovery.

Vocational training is what we really need. I appeal to our able Governor of CES to prioritise granting start-up capital to the skilled youth to open businesses.
I further encourage Yei Vocational Institute to empower more youth and women with various skills.
