(TEREKEKA) – A friendly traditional wrestling match between Bor and Mundari communities is scheduled to take place in Terekeka County in Central Equatoria State on 31st October 2026.
The match will feature Lual Matiop, known as Ahoc Maker, against Lokule Lobun, known as Agut Makech. It will be held at Terekeka Wrestling Field starting at 7am.
The request was made by the Bor County Wrestling and Cultural Association in a letter dated 29th September 2026, addressed to the Terekeka County Wrestling and Cultural Association under the leadership of Emmanuel Kidia Riak.
The letter states that 21 wrestlers, including the main competitors, will take part in the event.
The association said the match is intended to promote unity and peaceful coexistence between the two communities. It described the event as a historic wrestling meeting between Bor and Mundari.
The Bor County Wrestling and Cultural Association requested the Terekeka association to consider the request without delay and to respond as soon as possible.
The letter was signed by Ngang Mabior Ngang, also known as Ngang Machot, Chairman of the Bor County Wrestling and Cultural Association.
Copies of the letter were sent to the Office of the Acting Commissioner of Bor County, the Office of the Paramount Chief, the Office of the Bor Community, the Bor Community in the Diaspora, the Bor County Youth Association, security organs, the media and the file.
Traditional wrestling is a popular sport among communities in Jonglei, Lakes and Central Equatoria states. The South Sudan Wrestling Federation has previously said the sport can promote unity and social cohesion, particularly among cattle-keeping communities affected by insecurity .
Wrestling has a long history in South Sudan, with the first recorded match held in Bor County in 1958 . The sport later spread to other parts of the country, including Lakes, Central Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria states.
