(YEI RIVER COUNTY) — The Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, has signed a grant agreement under the “Catalyzing Durable Solutions in Yei River County and Beyond” project during a ceremony held in Juba on Friday, 20 February 2026.
The project, which will run until 30 June 2028, is funded by the European Union Directorate-General for International Partnerships and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM)
The agreement was signed by Per Enar Enarsson, EU Ambassador to South Sudan; Ms. Vijaya Souri, IOM Chief of Mission; Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, Commissioner of Yei River County; and Hon. James Kasara Clement, Commissioner of Rubkona County in Unity State.
Speaking during the ceremony, Commissioner Emmanuel conveyed the gratitude of the people of Yei River County, describing the initiative as both timely and transformative.
He noted that the project will address pressing community concerns, particularly in: Recovery and reintegration, Sustainable development and Livelihood restoration.
The Commissioner emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of South Sudan’s economy, highlighting Yei’s reputation as one of the country’s most productive agricultural areas.
He stated that strengthening the agricultural sector under the project will: Enhance food security, Improve household incomes, Boost local livelihoods and Restore economic stability in the county
Commissioner Emmanuel expressed appreciation to the European Union and IOM for their continued partnership and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring smooth and effective implementation of the project in collaboration with all stakeholders.
The signing marks a significant milestone for Yei River County as it advances efforts toward durable solutions, long-term recovery, and strengthened community resilience.
