(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has praised the people of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area for maintaining peace within their communities and with neighbouring areas.
President Kiir made the remarks during a meeting where he received a report from the Chief Administrator of GPAA, Gola Boyoi Gola, on the current situation in the region.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Chief Administrator Gola said local authorities have been working closely with young people to promote peaceful coexistence among different communities.
He also stated that the people of GPAA are prepared for the national elections scheduled for December this year. Authorities are taking steps to ensure that the environment is ready for a smooth and fair voting process.
GPAA is noted for its natural resources, and Chief Administrator Gola appealed to the national government to invest in mining activities in the area. He said such investment would help boost the economic growth of South Sudan and provide opportunities for local communities.
Officials from the Pibor delegation emphasised that the region’s commitment to peace and development sets a positive example for other parts of South Sudan, particularly in areas recovering from conflict.
