
Governor Riek Credits Spiritual Leaders for Calm in Uror
(PADIET, DUK COUNTY) – The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, has paid a courtesy visit to renowned spiritual leader Dak Kueth Deng at his residence in Padiet, Duk County, following the conclusion of a five day peace mission to Twic East and Duk counties.
During the meeting, Governor Riek commended Dak Kueth Deng for his steadfast leadership and commitment to advancing peace throughout Greater Lou Nuer.
He noted that, for the first time in many years, communities in Yuai, Pieri, and Karam in Uror County, Pading and Waat in Nyirol County, and Akobo Headquarters and Walgak are experiencing relative peace and stability.
The Governor also expressed his appreciation to spiritual leaders Dak Kueth Deng and Makuach Tut for their tireless efforts in fostering reconciliation, encouraging dialogue, and strengthening peaceful coexistence among communities.
Governor Riek reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to ensuring that peace delivers tangible development benefits through continued investment in road infrastructure, education, healthcare services, and other essential public services across Greater Lou Nuer and Northern Jonglei.
The Governor wished Dak Kueth Deng a safe journey back to Greater Lou Nuer and encouraged him to continue serving as a strong advocate for peace and unity.
Speaking during the meeting, Dak Kueth Deng expressed his gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for prioritising peace in Greater Lou Nuer and for appointing Dr. Riek Gai Kok as Governor of Jonglei State.
He described Governor Riek as “a man of peace” and pledged his continued support in working closely with the President.
Dak Kueth also appealed to President Salva Kiir Mayardit to continue investing in road construction throughout Greater Lou Nuer, saying that improved infrastructure would promote economic growth, enhance service delivery and further consolidate peace.
