
Governor Gai Kok Says Dialogue Key to Jonglei Development/PHOTO: State Government Press
(POKTAP, DUK COUNTY) – A five day peace mission aimed at resolving longstanding issues between the Ayual community of Twic East County and the Hol community of Duk County has concluded with a public rally in Poktap, Ageer Payam.
The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, led the high-level mission and addressed residents during the rally. He called on the people of Greater Pawel to work hand in hand with the government in finding lasting solutions to the issues affecting both communities.
He said dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence remain the foundation for sustainable peace and development across the region.
The Governor reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to strengthening unity among neighbouring communities. He urged citizens to reject violence and embrace peaceful mechanisms for resolving disputes.
Speaking at the event, the State Minister of General Education and Instruction, Hon. Samuel Ador Thon, stressed that lasting peace is essential for improving access to education.
He noted that a peaceful environment enables children to attend school safely and allows communities to invest in their future.
Hon. Ador appealed to county authorities, traditional chiefs, parents, and community leaders to work together in promoting education and ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn.
He described education as the key to sustainable development and a brighter future for Jonglei State.
The mission involved consultations with community leaders, youth, women, religious leaders and local authorities. It focused on strengthening reconciliation, restoring trust, and promoting lasting peace between the neighbouring communities of Twic East and Duk counties.
