(KAJO-KEJI) – The Commissioner of Kajo-Keji County, Central Equatoria State, has urged local leaders and community members to become peace ambassadors following years of conflict and instability in the region.
Commissioner Wani Jackson Mule made the appeal during the closing ceremony of a five day training on peacebuilding and trauma healing held in Wudu Town on Friday, 4 July 2025. The training was organised and funded by Favor Africa Ministries International, a faith based organisation committed to peace and reconciliation efforts.
The commissioner commended the organisation for conducting the training, which targeted community leaders, religious figures, representatives from organised forces and local government officials. The training aimed to provide skills in trauma counselling and healing in order to help rebuild trust and stability in communities affected by conflict.
“This is an important training for nurturing patient and peaceful individuals,” said Commissioner Wani.
He called on participants to practise forgiveness, use their new knowledge to promote reconciliation and lead by example in their homes, communities and workplaces.
Speaking on behalf of the Inter-Church Committee, Rev. Canon Edward Jale stressed the importance of the training in encouraging critical thinking and non violent approaches to conflict resolution. He advised community leaders to avoid revenge and instead focus on building lasting peace through collective efforts.
Rev. Jale also called for wider partnerships to enable the training to reach other areas within Kajo-Keji County, where similar post conflict trauma continues to affect residents.
One of the participants, Poni Mary Paul, described the training as “relevant and timely,” particularly in addressing the unique challenges facing women in the aftermath of prolonged conflict in the county.
Geoffrey Gita, the Programme Coordinator for Favor Africa Ministries International, highlighted the organisation’s mission:
“Transform hearts to transform the nation.”
He stressed the importance of collaboration between government institutions, churches and community leaders to ensure broader access to peace and trauma healing services.
According to Gita, building local capacity is a vital step towards achieving meaningful healing and reconciliation in communities that have experienced years of violence and division.
