(BOR COUNTY, JONGLEI STATE) – The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr Riek Gai Kok, has urged religious organisations and citizens to promote unity, peace and faith as key values for the recovery and development of the state and South Sudan as a whole.
Speaking during a church service in Bor town, the Governor called on Christians to put aside denominational differences and strengthen fellowship among communities. He said prayer plays an important role in healing divisions and supporting peace in Jonglei and across the country.
Dr Riek praised church leaders for maintaining prayers and guidance during some of South Sudan’s most difficult periods. He said religious institutions have helped communities remain resilient despite years of conflict and hardship. According to the Governor, the current efforts to rebuild Jonglei are guided by faith and a shared commitment to peace, rather than individual ambition.
The Governor also highlighted achievements made by his administration since taking office and pledged to continue reforms that are grounded in moral and spiritual values. He assured residents that the security situation in Jonglei remains stable and called on citizens to support peace efforts through responsible behaviour.
He cautioned against the misuse of social media, warning that inflammatory messages and unverified information can threaten stability. The Governor urged the public to communicate responsibly and avoid content that could cause tension or misunderstanding.
Bor County Commissioner, Ateny Pech Ariik, supported the Governor’s message by calling for calm among residents. He appealed to media outlets and individuals to verify information before publication or sharing. The Commissioner warned that political divisions and false reporting could undermine the peace that has been achieved in the state.
Church leaders who attended the service echoed calls for unity and hope. They encouraged believers to remain steadfast in faith despite national and global challenges, and to support peaceful coexistence within their communities.
The church service was attended by state officials, religious leaders, traditional authorities and members of the public. Participants agreed that faith continues to play an important role in governance, social cohesion and sustainable development in Jonglei State and South Sudan.
