(JUBA COUNTY) – Governor of Central Equatoria State, Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, has launched a three day conference aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers in Kuda, Dolo Payam, Juba County.
The event, organised by the Commissioners of Terekeka and Juba counties and funded by the State Government, focuses on reducing conflicts between cattle herders from Terekeka and local farmers.
Mujung praised the Commissioners for bringing together community leaders, youth, chiefs and women to engage in open dialogue. He reaffirmed the State’s commitment to supporting homegrown peace initiatives in line with the President’s directives and the State’s priorities on peace and security.
He encouraged participants to voice their grievances to achieve forgiveness and reconciliation, stressing that outcomes should be jointly implemented and violations punished according to constitutional or traditional law.
State Minister of Peace Building, Hon. Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, highlighted the declining relations between farmers and herders, calling for collective efforts to restore trust and cooperation.
Juba County Commissioner Hon. Emmanuel Tete Ezbon pledged to collaborate with his Terekeka counterpart, citing the participation of all 13 Juba chiefs as evidence of community unity.
Terekeka Commissioner, Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Loku Lodu, emphasised the need to arrest individuals destroying farms and urged stricter enforcement of rules in cattle camps.
Yangwara Community Chairperson Hon. Salah Rajab Bunduki proposed the establishment of agreed grazing corridors, water points, and mechanisms to prevent crimes by armed herders.
Acting Chairman of the Mundari Community, Hon. Wani Buyu, called for community solidarity, reaffirmed support for peace initiatives, and stressed that wrongdoing by individuals must be condemned.
The conference brought together community leaders, cattle camp heads, farmers, herders, chiefs, UNMISS representatives, State officials, and religious leaders to develop practical solutions for sustainable peace in Juba County.
