Three Die in Mexico City During World Cup Celebrations

(MEXICO CITY) – Three people died in Mexico City after fans took to the streets to celebrate the national team’s advancement to the round of 16 of the World Cup.

Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0 at the Estadio Azteca on Tuesday evening and could face England at the same venue on Sunday if Thomas Tuchel’s team beats DR Congo on Wednesday.

The official account of the Mexico City Health Secretariat confirmed that a 44 year old man, a 19 year old girl, and a 48 year old woman died from asphyxiation. All three were found near Paseo de la Reforma Avenue in the city centre.

Head of the Government of Mexico City Clara Brugada wrote on her account on X that Mexico City emergency services immediately responded to reports of three unconscious people in different locations near Paseo de la Reforma.

She said all medical assistance protocols were activated, but unfortunately, they could not be saved.
