(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Kajo-Keji County, Hon. Wani Jackson Mule, has officially invited the people of Kajo-Keji and all South Sudanese to join in commemorating the country’s 14th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, 9 July 2025, at Freedom Square in Mere.
“I warmly invite every citizen, near and far, to join us at Freedom Square in Mere for this important national occasion.”
Speaking during a live radio programme on Hope FM 86.9 on Sunday, 6 July 2025, Commissioner Mule reaffirmed the county’s commitment to marking this significant day despite ongoing economic difficulties. He said the celebration would showcase the resilience of the people and the cultural richness of the Kuku community.
Hon. Mule described the Independence Day as an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by the country’s heroes and heroines and a moment to renew the spirit of unity, peace and nation building. He called on citizens to actively take part in honouring the national journey that began in 2011.
“I believe that our independence should never be taken for granted. This day belongs to every South Sudanese, from the elders who remember the early struggles, to the youth who now carry our dreams forward.”
Representing the security sector, Army Area Commander Brigadier General Henry Buri urged young people in the area to observe the celebrations in a peaceful and orderly manner. He advised against violence and the misuse of alcohol during the event, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a safe environment.
General Buri also assured the public that security forces would be carrying out heightened patrols throughout the week leading up to the national holiday. He encouraged all residents to cooperate with security personnel to ensure peaceful celebrations.
According to Gen. Buri, the general security situation in Kajo-Keji County is currently stable. He pointed to a recent successful operation in which stolen cattle were recovered and returned to their rightful owners as a sign of growing public confidence in local security efforts.
