(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Yei Teachers Training College will mark 25 years of training educators with silver jubilee celebrations on 1 October 2026, an event expected to draw education stakeholders from Juba and beyond.
The college has enrolled more than 200 students despite severe disruptions caused by the 2016 conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic. Principal Dr Keppo James shared the figure during a visit to the Yei River County commissioner’s office, where he briefed officials on preparations for the anniversary.
Dr Keppo said the institution continues to face serious infrastructure problems. The lack of a perimeter fence remains a major concern, allowing unauthorised people to enter the compound and disturb college activities.
The college leadership used the visit to formally invite Yei County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo to the October celebrations. They also thanked the local government for providing security and protection to the institution over the years.
The Commissioner praised the college for its role in improving education across South Sudan by producing skilled teachers. He described the institution as an important centre for quality teacher training under church management.
He also confirmed he would attend the anniversary, stating that the county government remains committed to supporting educational institutions in the area.
