(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Civil servants in Yei River County have expressed anger and frustration over delays in receiving their salaries, despite claims that the national government has already released the funds.
According to staff in the county, the state ministry of finance has not yet sent the pay sheets required to process payments. Teachers, cleaners and other public workers say the delay has left them struggling to meet family needs and has weakened morale as schools prepare to reopen.
Robert, a primary school teacher, said the delay is making it difficult to plan for the new school term:
“I am not happy because we have not received our salaries. We were told that the money has been sent to the counties, but in Yei we have not received it.”
He appealed to the concerned authorities to speed up the process.
Robert explained that the hardship is made worse by the length of the delay.
“Imagine working for one year and four months without pay. This is not easy, and yet some officials are not processing even the little salary we are supposed to get,” he added.
Rose Monday, an office cleaner, also voiced her frustration. She said delays were being blamed on lack of paper to process pay slips.
“Why is it difficult to process our salaries? We were told there were no papers, but our families are suffering. We call for urgent attention on this matter.”
Rose added that many workers were struggling to send children to school and to meet household needs.
Another civil servant, Moses, said the situation is worsening living conditions:
“I am not happy because we have not received our salaries until now. Our living conditions are deteriorating day by day.”
He appealed to both county and state authorities to resolve the issue quickly.
Efforts to contact officials from the county government and the state ministry of finance for comment were unsuccessful.
