(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Yei Football Association (YFA), in partnership with the United Nations Population Agency (UNPA), has announced the launch of a community event aimed at empowering adolescent girls through sports and public engagement.
The event titled Adolescent Girls Empowerment Day will take place on Saturday, 1st November 2025, at Yei Freedom Square, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The initiative is part of wider efforts to promote inclusion, confidence and leadership among young girls in Yei and surrounding communities through football.
Organisers said the event is designed to encourage girls to participate more actively in sports, build teamwork and gain essential life skills that contribute to their personal growth and community development.
In an official invitation to all women’s football clubs, the Secretary General of the Yei Football Association, Isaac Mamur, called on teams to send ten female players, including their team captain and Club Administrator, to take part in the day’s activities.
He said the involvement of clubs is vital for the success of the event and for the continued growth of women’s football in Yei River County.
“Your active participation will contribute greatly to the success of this event and to the continued development of women’s football in Yei,” he wrote in the invitation.
The Adolescent Girls Empowerment Day will include friendly matches, awareness talks, and motivational sessions focusing on education, health, and gender equality.
The YFA and UNPA hope the initiative will inspire young girls to pursue their dreams, both in football and beyond, while addressing social challenges such as early marriage and school dropout rates.
The Yei Football Association has been an active supporter of women’s football development in Central Equatoria State, working closely with local and international partners to create opportunities for young female athletes.
