(JUBA) – The Juba Electricity Distribution Company, JEDCO, has announced the permanent closure of its Gumbo Shirkat office, a planned power cut affecting several neighbourhoods over the weekend and an extension of ongoing electricity rationing into July 2026, while also urging residents to apply for new connections.
The Gumbo Shirkat office will operate for the last time on 30th June 2026. After that date, customers in the Shirkat area who need to buy electricity tokens must use two authorised point of sale agents.
The first is Standard Services Company Limited, reachable on 0922 73 8111. The second is Blue Nile Hotel, reachable on 0927 608 844.
JEDCO said these agents are available to help customers buy tokens conveniently within the Shirkat area. Customers with further questions can call the JEDCO toll free care number 319.
Separately, JEDCO informed customers of a planned power interruption on Saturday, 4th July 2026. The outage will run from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, a period of four hours.
It is needed to erect transformer poles and install accessories. The areas affected are Hai Cinema, Hai Neem, Hai Mobil, Nimratalata, Atlabara B, Hai Thoura, Nyakuron East, Nyakuron West, Suk Sita, Giada, the University of Juba, Jebel Market, Jaborona and parts of Khor Williang. JEDCO apologised for the trouble and asked for customer understanding. Queries can be directed to the toll free line 319.
In a related development, JEDCO announced that temporary power rationing has been extended by one week late last month. The rationing will now run from 29th June to 5th July 2026.
The company said the extension is due to ongoing planned maintenance of the power generation plant. Customers were told to check the attached power rationing schedule for planned outage dates and times in their areas. JEDCO apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience.
Despite the supply challenges, JEDCO is encouraging residents to apply for new power connections. The company told the public to visit their nearest JEDCO centre to get connected. There are two centres open for applications.
The Nimratalata Centre is in Nimratalata, Juba, and can be reached on 0928 65 01 02.
The Gudele Centre is in Gudele, Juba, and can be reached on 0928 65 01 03. Applicants need to bring a copy of their national ID, a copy of a land sketch map and a written request for JEDCO to connect their house.
JEDCO described the process as “easy, with clear steps for a brighter tomorrow.”
The company called on residents to light up their homes, businesses and communities.
