One Arrested Over Night Attack on Medical Officer in Yei Town

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Police authorities in Yei River County have arrested one man in connection with last week’s night attack on a medical official in Yei town.

On Monday, 16 February 2026, unidentified armed men attacked Justo Ludanga Yoasa at his residence in the Hai Tarawa residential area, about three kilometers southwest of Yei town.

Yoasa, a clinical officer at Yei Civil Hospital, was reportedly attacked inside his room at around 10:00 PM CAT. Family members say the incident was reported to police authorities on Tuesday last week.

The Police Inspector of Yei River County, Major General Ali Abdulla, confirmed the arrest in a statement to Access Radio on Tuesday. He said the suspect is currently in detention and will be taken to court once investigations are complete.

“The man was arrested and is currently under detention. He will be investigated, and after all due processes are completed, the case will be forwarded to the court for trial and final verdict,” Abdulla said.

Family members say the victim is still receiving treatment at Yei Civil Hospital.

Earlier this week, the Chairperson of the Yei River County Youth Association, Gaga Frank, urged young people to avoid late-night movements due to what he described as increasing night-time attacks in the town.

Authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
