(JUBA COUNTY) – Authorities in Juba County have intervened in Garbu Village in Mangalla Payam following reports of violent attacks on farmers and destruction of agricultural land.
The intervention on Friday was led by the County Commissioner, Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, accompanied by organised security forces. The move followed complaints from residents that unknown individuals had attacked farmers and damaged cultivated fields.
The Commissioner condemned the incidents, describing them as criminal and unacceptable. He said the county government remains committed to protecting farmers, safeguarding lawful land use and maintaining peace and security across Juba County.
According to local residents, unidentified suspects destroyed crops, erected temporary shelters known as Rukubas inside cultivated farms and assaulted farmers and workers who attempted to stop them.
One affected resident said he was beaten a day earlier after confronting individuals who tried to put up a Rukuba on his farmland.
The Commissioner said investigations are underway. He added that those responsible for destroying farms, illegally occupying land and assaulting civilians would be held accountable under the law.
County authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel as efforts continue to restore order and protect livelihoods in the area.
The incident comes at a time when many households in Central Equatoria State depend on small scale farming for food and income, making land security a key concern for communities in and around Juba.
