President Kiir Signs Three Key Bills into Law

(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday signed three significant bills into law:

1. Cyber Crime and Computer Misuse Act, 2026

2. Southern Sudan Audit Chamber Act, 2011 (Amendment) Act, 2026

3. Wildlife Conservation and Protected Areas Act, 2026

Information Minister Ateny Wek Ateny said the Cyber Crime and Computer Misuse Act establishes legal provisions to address offenses related to computer systems. The law is intended to enhance the timely detection, prohibition, prevention, investigation, and prosecution of cybercrimes, marking a major step in strengthening South Sudan’s digital governance framework.

Regarding financial oversight, Ateny noted that the amended Audit Chamber Act sets out clearer procedures for auditing and reporting on the accounts of national government ministries, institutions, agencies, departments, and public corporations where public funds have been received, invested, or spent. The reform aims to bolster transparency and accountability in public financial management.

The Wildlife Conservation and Protected Areas Act, 2026 establishes a regulatory framework governing wildlife conservation and the management of protected areas. The legislation seeks to ensure sustainable management of South Sudan’s natural heritage and wildlife resources for the benefit of current and future generations.

The newly enacted laws are expected to significantly reshape South Sudan’s digital regulation landscape, strengthen financial accountability mechanisms, and reinforce environmental and natural resource governance nationwide.
