(JUBA) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement has welcomed several political figures back to its ranks in recent weeks, in what the ruling party describes as a growing national consensus behind its leadership.
Cde. Gamar Dunia returned to the SPLM after resigning from the South Sudan United Front.
He was formally received by Cde. Majur Michael Achol, SPLM Deputy Secretary for Political Affairs, Mobilization and Organization, along with Member of the Political Bureau Cde. Uguak Arun.
Cde. Luka Lual Wieu, SPLM Deputy Secretary for Legal Affairs, then administered the oath of allegiance, completing his full reinstatement as an active member of the movement.
Cde. Majur Michael welcomed Cde. Gamar Dunia back and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute to the party’s mission of fostering national unity, sustainable peace and socio-economic development across South Sudan.
The party said Cde. Gamar Dunia’s decision showed growing public trust in the SPLM as the main political vehicle capable of securing stability, progress and lasting cohesion for the nation.
In a separate development, the SPLM welcomed Hon. Leek Malong Yor and Hon. Barnaba Bol following their resignations from the SPLM/A-IO and the Federal Democratic Party.
The two politicians were formally received by the SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs, Mobilization and Organization, Cde. Amb. John Andurga Duku, at the SPLM Plaza in Juba.
Hon. Leek Malong Yor, who recently resigned from the SPLM/A-IO, said he was committed to working with the SPLM.
He said his previous experience within the party would help him address its challenges and strengthen its political activities.
Hon. Barnaba Bol resigned from the Federal Democratic Party citing personal reasons.
He announced his return to the SPLM, a party he first joined in 1986 in Fula, Western Kordofan, in Sudan.
He explained that he left the movement in 2016 due to certain challenges before later joining the Federal Democratic Party.
On 12th October 2026, the SPLM also welcomed Hon. Natalina Amjima Malek, a former member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly.
Her move followed her resignation from the South Sudan Patriotic Movement and the South Sudan Opposition Alliance.
Hon. Amjima was formally received by Cde. Amb. John Andurga Duku at the SPLM Plaza.
Her joining, the party said, reflects growing national consensus and public confidence in the SPLM as the main political vehicle capable of delivering stability, development and lasting unity across South Sudan.
Guided by the will and political aspirations of her community, Hon. Amjima said her decision directly answered her constituents’ call to unite under the SPLM banner.
She said joining the party provides the most effective and strong platform to advance her community’s interests while contributing to the country’s broader democratic and political development.
The SPLM reaffirmed its call to all citizens, political figures and stakeholders across all regions to unite under the leadership of Chairman H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The party said it continues to mobilise efforts toward building a peaceful, unified and prosperous South Sudan for all.
