
Lt. Gen. Semir Khamis Suleiman (R)
(JUBA) – The Government of Central Equatoria State has confirmed the death of Lt. Gen. Semir Khamis Suleiman, who passed away in the early hours of 20 August 2025.
According to a statement from the Office of the Governor, the late General served in different leadership roles in the state. He was appointed Deputy Mayor of Juba City Council, a position he held for two years before being promoted to Mayor in January 2019. His service took place during the era of the former Juba State, which has since been dissolved.
The Governor of Central Equatoria, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, directed that flags at government institutions across the state be lowered to half-mast in recognition of Suleiman’s contributions.
The announcement noted that Lt. Gen. Suleiman is regarded as having played a role in both administrative and civic functions in Juba. His death has been acknowledged as a loss to state institutions and governance.
