(JUBA COUNTY) – Senior leaders, officials and citizens gathered in Juba on Saturday, 23 August 2025, to pay their last respects to the late Lt. Gen. Samir Khamis Sauliman Laku, former Mayor of Juba City Council. The funeral service brought together state and national dignitaries, family members and the community of Mangalla to honour his long record of public service.
The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, was among those in attendance, together with former Central Equatoria Governor Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, Hon. Alfred Lado Gore, the Commissioner of Juba County, former Presidential Advisor Sheik Juma Saed, the current Mayor of Juba City Council and several other senior leaders.
Speaking during the prayers, Governor Mujung described the late General as a man of commitment and integrity who worked tirelessly for the people of Juba.
“Gen. Samir did God’s work. He served with diligence and worked hard for his people. We pray that his soul rests in eternal peace.”
Mourners recalled that during his time as Mayor, Lt. Gen. Khamis placed the welfare of the people at the centre of his leadership. They described him as a humble leader whose approach was guided by integrity and service.
The funeral service concluded with prayers for peace and comfort for the bereaved family. Leaders also urged citizens to emulate his example by committing themselves to public service and unity in their communities.
