(JUBA) – Jamus SC held Sudanese champions Al Hilal to a goalless draw at the Juba National Stadium in the first leg of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League preliminary stage.
The result is a major achievement for Jamus, who are making their debut in the CAF Champions League. Last season, the club competed only in the CAF Confederation Cup. By contrast, Al Hilal entered the match with extensive continental experience, reaching the Champions League quarterfinals last season.
Al Hilal’s new coach, Laurențiu Reghecampf, fielded a strong squad in Juba. Nigerian striker Sunday Adetunji made his continental debut for Al Hilal after joining the club in August. Despite their reputation and experience, the Sudanese side were unable to break down Jamus’ defence.
Jamus’ performance reflected their growing confidence in continental competition, having recently reached the Kagame Cup final. Playing on home soil, the South Sudan champions displayed tactical discipline and resilience, keeping Al Hilal from scoring throughout the match.
The second leg will be held next Sunday at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar. Al Hilal are expected to be heavy favourites to advance, but Jamus’ result in Juba provides them with hope and a platform to challenge the Sudanese champions.
