(Juba) – The Luol Deng Foundation has announced the return of the Stanbic Jr. NBA Basketball League for its second edition in Juba, marking another milestone in efforts to promote youth sports and development in South Sudan.
The event is organized in collaboration with NBA Africa and other partners and targets school aged boys and girls under the age of 16.
This year’s league will involve approximately 450 young athletes from various schools in Juba.
According to organizers, the interscholastic league is designed not only to build basketball talent but also to instill values such as teamwork, discipline, respect, and personal growth.
The official team draft event is scheduled for June 26, 2025, at 3:00 PM at St. Mark Orthodox School in Munuki Block “B.” The tip-off game for the season will take place two days later on June 28, 2025, at 8:00 AM at Nimra Talata Basketball Stadium. These dates will mark the official start of what is expected to be a competitive and educational season.
Participating schools have been asked to finalize and submit their team rosters and complete all league-related requirements in advance of the draft. The organizers emphasized the importance of timely preparation to ensure a smooth and fair tournament.
The Stanbic Jr. NBA League is part of a mission by the Luol Deng Foundation to use basketball as a tool for youth empowerment in South Sudan.
Former NBA player Luol Deng, who was born in South Sudan, established the foundation to support education, leadership, and sports among young people in his home country.
