Power Firm Clarifies Emergency Credit Use/PHOTO CREDITS: JEDCO
(JUBA) – The main electricity provider in Juba has issued new guidance to customers on how to access emergency power units, find meter numbers and replace lost service documents.
Juba Electric Distribution Company said customers using KE meters can access an emergency supply of 10 kilowatt hours by dialling 5566 on their meter when their credit reaches zero. The borrowed units are automatically deducted the next time the customer purchases electricity tokens from authorised sales points.
The company said the service is only available on KE meters and requires users to have no remaining credit before activation. It added that the measure is intended to help households manage short power interruptions before topping up.
Customers were also advised on how to check their meter numbers. KE meter users can dial 75 on the device, while those using Conlog meters can dial number 04 on wired units or 100 on mobile units.
The utility further said customers who have lost or misplaced their electricity contract, commonly referred to as the yellow form, should visit the customer help desk at its Hai Mauna head office to request a replacement. Users are required to present a copy of the national identity document used during registration and provide their meter number.
In a separate notice, the company announced a planned power outage on 11 April affecting parts of Juba. The interruption lasted five hours from 08:00 to 13:00 and affected areas including Dar Salam, parts of Mauna, Hai Kuwait, Seventh Day area, Kololo Road and Airport Road. The outage was linked to relocation work on a medium voltage line along Airport Road.
The company also reminded customers that agents operating point of sale systems are only permitted to charge a commission of two per cent of the transaction value when selling electricity tokens.
Juba Electric Distribution Company is a public private partnership involving Ezra Construction and Development Group and the South Sudan Electricity Corporation, and remains the main electricity supplier in the capital.
