Position Overview:
WFP South Sudan is seeking a Programme Policy Officer (Vulnerability Analysis & Mapping – VAM) to strengthen evidence-based food security policies and programming. Based in Juba and reporting to the Head of VAM, the Officer will collect, analyse, and visualise data on food security, vulnerability, and nutrition to inform operational decisions and advocacy.
The role involves survey design, data collection, data management and analysis, reporting, capacity building, and technical support to programme teams and stakeholders. The Officer will also explore innovative approaches using statistical and data science techniques to support WFP’s interventions in South Sudan.
Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement food security and nutrition surveys, ensuring data quality.

Clean, process, and analyse primary and secondary data using statistical methods and basic machine learning techniques.

Generate evidence to inform geographic targeting, programme prioritisation, and ration planning.

Prepare clear, timely reports and data visualisations for programme and donor stakeholders.

Support capacity building, training, and collaboration with internal teams, government, and partners.

Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in data collection, analysis, and reporting methods.

Travel to remote field locations as required to support data collection and programme monitoring.
Qualifications & Experience:

Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Food Security, Public Health/Nutrition, Geography, or related field; Bachelor’s degree with additional experience considered.

Master’s degree: Minimum 2 years relevant experience, including at least 1 year as a data analyst. Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 4 years, including 1 year as a data analyst.

Experience in food security analysis, monitoring, and humanitarian/development programming, ideally in South Sudan. Experience in IPC analysis is an asset.

Advanced knowledge of statistical software (R, SPSS); Python and data visualisation tools (Tableau, Power BI) desirable.

Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills; ability to work under pressure.

Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic or local languages is an advantage.
