(JUBA CITY) – The Juba Electric Distribution Company (JEDCO) has warned customers to stop paying cash to its staff members for any service, saying all payments must be made only at the official JEDCO Finance Office in Mauna.
The warning, issued by JEDCO, is aimed at protecting customers from fraud and unauthorised collections. The company said connection fees, bills and payments for any other service should be made at the Mauna office and nowhere else.
JEDCO is a public private partnership founded in May 2018 to manage electricity distribution in Juba, South Sudan’s capital. It began distribution operations on 21st November 2019, after the Ezra power plant was commissioned .
The company is jointly owned by Ezra Construction and Development Group, which holds a 52 per cent stake, and the state owned South Sudan Electricity Corporation, which holds 48 per cent .
JEDCO is the sole licensed electricity distributor in Juba and serves the city’s metropolitan area. The company provides prepaid electricity supply, new customer connections, network maintenance and emergency response services. It also supports digital token purchases through mobile money platforms .
The company serves more than 45,000 connected residential and commercial customers . Its emergency response team operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In 2025, electricity prices were reduced following presidential directives to improve affordability. Domestic tariffs for consumption below 100 kilowatt hours were cut from $0.303 to $0.273 per kWh, while commercial tariffs fell from $0.348 to $0.32 per kWh .
JEDCO said customers must not give cash to any staff member. It said anyone who asks for payment outside the Finance Office should be reported immediately.
Customers can report such requests on the toll free line 319. The company said the measures are meant to prevent fraud and corruption, ensure safe and secure payments and promote transparent service.
JEDCO said it is working with the community to improve service and power progress, adding that it remains committed to transparency.
