(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – A concerned resident of Yei is calling on the Department of Roads and Bridges in Yei River County to urgently resume and complete the rehabilitation of Wuluturu Bridge, a critical transport link in the area.
On December 29, 2025, county authorities officially launched the rehabilitation of Wuluturu Bridge. The county-funded project is intended to improve road access between Yei town and nearby Otogo and Mugwo payams, as well as other surrounding rural communities. The initiative aims to boost trade, improve access to farmlands, and enhance service delivery.
Kenyi John Elias stressed the need for swift completion of the works before heavy rains intensify.
“I am asking the county government, specifically the Office of the Commissioner, to speed up the process of the bridge rehabilitation because as we speak, it has started raining in Yei. We call on the government to implement this project quickly, and we also call on the state government to support these development projects,” he said.
Kenyi added that the local community is willing to contribute local materials to support the successful completion of the bridge.
The Director of Roads and Physical Infrastructure in Yei River County, Richard Lugala Godo, described Wuluturu Bridge as a vital asset for the county’s economic development. He assured residents that work is progressing and is expected to be completed by the second week of March.
“Wuluturu Bridge work is already on the move because it connects people to production areas. Within the second week of March, the work will be completed. Culverts have been deployed to the site and people should be patient. If there are people who want to support us, let them do so. We need cement, aggregates and other materials so that we complete this project before heavy rains begin,” Lugala said.
Residents of Hai Dam, Mission, and New Site areas have repeatedly urged authorities to repair broken bridges across Yei town, emphasizing the importance of reliable infrastructure to support movement, trade, and community services.
