(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – A programme to stop young people from joining criminal gangs is being expanded in Yei River County. The Reproductive Health Association of South Sudan (RHASS) is carrying out the youth focused work on education and empowerment.
The group’s officials met with the Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Samuel Henry Malimbo, on 2 July 2026 to give details of their activities.
Malimbo said the county administration is open to partnerships that add to the social and economic development of the area. He called on the organisation to make sure its help reaches all communities, naming Tore, Lasu, Otogo, Mugwo and Yei Town Payam as key areas.
The Commissioner also praised RHASS for supporting the renovation of a building belonging to the county health department. He described the project as an important contribution to making health services stronger in the area.
Laila Apai, an officer with the organisation, said RHASS has been working in Yei since 2019. It has kept close cooperation with the Yei River County Health Department to carry out health programmes.
Dr. Lou Eluzai Loponi, who works with RHASS and holds a PhD and MSc in Health Systems Management, said the visit was to formally present the organisation and brief the county leadership on its services.
Dr. Loponi explained that RHASS was established in 2011 by professionals, including officials from the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare. It is registered with the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC).
Nearly all of its activities focus on improving reproductive health services and rights in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. He added that RHASS represents South Sudan at international conferences on reproductive health.
The Director of the Yei River County Health Department, Simon Musoga, assured the commissioner that work would continue on the renovation of the department’s former offices. This building was once the Ministry of Health headquarters during the former Yei River State administration.
