Two Injured, Three Houses Burnt in Armed Attack in Morobo County
Two people have been injured and three houses burnt following an armed attack in Aboroto Village, Lujule Payam, Morobo County, on Monday night.
According to a post on the Facebook page of the Morobo County Commissioner, suspected armed holdout group members attacked the village on 12th October.
They stole residents’ belongings and set fire to three homes.
The attack has raised fresh concerns over insecurity in the area, where residents have reportedly faced abductions and property looting in recent months.
Caretaker Commissioner Hon. Moro Isaac Johnson visited the victims on Tuesday.
He was accompanied by the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) area commander for Morobo Garrison and other organised forces.
During the visit, Commissioner Moro condemned the attack and called on armed groups to stop violence against civilians.
He urged the groups to engage with the government peacefully, saying continued violence only increases the suffering of innocent people.
The commissioner also called for respect for human dignity and expressed hope for a community where residents can live without fear.
Meanwhile, the SSPDF has reportedly increased its presence in the area.
Efforts continue to pursue those responsible for the attack and restore security.
The county government says protecting civilians and ensuring safety in affected communities remain key priorities.
UJOSS Urges NEC to Mobilise Resources for Journalists Ahead of Elections
The President of the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), Patrick Oyet, has urged the National Elections Commission (NEC) to mobilise resources for journalists and media houses ahead of the upcoming elections.
He made the remarks during a workshop on mainstreaming journalists’ work in the electoral process organised by NEC on Monday.
Oyet said journalists need financial and logistical support to provide accurate and timely information to the public before, during and after the elections.
He called on NEC to work with its development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other UN agencies, to include media houses in their plans for voter and civic education.
He said the support would help media outlets broadcast voter education messages, publish election-related information and provide airtime for public announcements.
Oyet also highlighted the challenges facing media houses, saying they need resources to maintain their daily operations.
He added that journalists would play an important role during the elections by providing updates on voting activities, voter turnout and the announcement of results.
The upcoming 22nd December 2026 elections will mark South Sudan’s first general elections since the country gained independence in 2011.
Amnesty Offered to Armed Groups in Western Equatoria
The Western Equatoria State caretaker Governor, Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa, has announced an amnesty offer for individuals who took up arms against the government.
He called on former governor Alfred Futuyo Karaba and other armed group members still in the bush to return home and embrace peace.
Speaking in Yambio on Monday, the caretaker governor said the government is ready to welcome those willing to surrender peacefully.
He urged them to abandon armed struggle and return to civilian life.
He appealed to armed individuals to lay down their weapons and help restore peace in the state.
The caretaker governor also called on church leaders and the Islamic community to engage armed youth and encourage them to return home.
He stated that religious leaders have a role to play in promoting peace and reconciliation.
Addressing those still in the bush, he urged them to pursue their leadership ambitions through democratic means rather than armed conflict.
He encouraged young people to return to their communities, participate in elections and contest for political positions to represent their people.
The caretaker governor said his administration wants to prevent further killings in Western Equatoria State.
He stated that the administration wants to create opportunities for young people to contribute to the state’s future through peaceful political participation.
He urged armed group members, religious leaders and communities to work together to promote reconciliation and lasting peace across the state.
In a separate event, the caretaker governor introduced the newly assigned commander of the 6th Infantry Division to the public and community of Western Equatoria State.

Ex-President Named Leader of New DR Congo Rebel Coalition
Former Congolese President Joseph Kabila has been named the leader of a new rebel coalition seeking to oust the government.
The Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN) said it aimed to coordinate “resistance forces” to end “tyranny” in Democratic Republic of Congo.
It said it would pursue the goal “by all means, including force”.
Its unveiling on Monday is the clearest indication so far of Kabila’s direct involvement in an armed movement.
This comes a year after he was sentenced to death in absentia for treason.
He had previously denied having links to the M23 rebel group.
The Congolese government has not commented.
Claude Ibalanky, the coalition’s adviser, announced the group’s leadership at a press conference at Kabila’s residence in Goma.
Goma is the largest city in eastern DR Congo, which has been under the control of the M23 since last year.
Video released by the group showed Kabila signing documents at the group’s declaration along with other leaders.
M23 leader Sultani Makenga will serve as one of Kabila’s four deputies in the new movement.
The other three also come from the AFC-M23 alliance which last year seized much of mineral-rich eastern DR Congo.
The announcement of the new group comes days after Kabila delivered an address in which he said he would set out how Congolese people should act to “rescue” their country.
On Friday, Kabila accused President Félix Tshisekedi’s government of disregarding proposals he had put forward last year, including some aimed at ending the conflict in eastern DR Congo.
Kabila also accused the government of undermining constitutional rule, mismanaging the economy and failing to improve security.
He further alleged arbitrary arrests of political opponents and military officers.
The government has not publicly responded to those claims.
Kabila, 55, ruled DR Congo from 2001 until January 2019, when Tshisekedi took office following a disputed election.
The two were once political allies, forming an informal power-sharing arrangement after the transfer of power.
They later fell out and Kabila went into self-imposed exile in 2023 before returning to Goma last year.
To end the news, here is a recap of the main stories once again.
