(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Emmanuel Christian University held its first Holy Mass of the 2026 academic year on Wednesday January 21, bringing together students, staff and university leadership for a weekly chapel service at its campus in Yei.
The Holy Mass is held every Wednesday as part of the university’s regular academic and spiritual calendar. University officials said the service provides an opportunity for members of the institution to gather for worship and reflection alongside their academic activities.
The sermon during the service was delivered by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Daniel Ohide. In his address, he encouraged students to promote peace and unity within the university community and in society more broadly, highlighting the role of personal conduct and mutual respect.
According to the university, at least one hour each Wednesday is set aside for spiritual retreat. During this time, students and staff come together for prayer and reflection as part of the institution’s wider approach to campus life.
Emmanuel Christian University is located at the Reconcile International Compound in Yei, about 1.5 miles along the Yei Maridi Road.
The institution offers a range of academic programmes and is a private university registered by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
The university is also a member of the Inter University Council for East Africa, which brings together higher education institutions across the region.
ECU officials said the university continues to operate fully while the January 2026 intake remains open for new students.
