(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Applications have opened for a new scholarship programme in Yei aimed at supporting secondary school graduates who cannot continue to university because of financial challenges.
The Education for Impact Scholarship Programme will select twenty students for its first cohort. The initiative aims to support young people who want to pursue higher education while also contributing to community development through service activities.
The programme is implemented by the Be the Change ND Initiative and supported by the Nzuri Daima Foundation based in Spain. Students selected for the scholarship will study at Emmanuel Christian University and the Yei Health Sciences Institute in Central Equatoria State.
Organisers say the programme is designed as a community driven effort to promote development through education and service. Participants will pursue professional courses of their choice while also taking part in regular community service in local institutions.
Many students in South Sudan complete secondary school but fail to continue to professional training because they cannot afford the costs. At the same time, local institutions including schools, hospitals and community organisations often face shortages of trained personnel.
The scholarship programme aims to address both challenges by supporting students to study while encouraging them to contribute their time and skills to community institutions.
Organisers say the initiative focuses on the link between education, responsibility and community service. The aim is to train professionals who remain connected to their communities and help support development at the local level.
Applications for the programme are open until 22 March. Applicants in Yei who need computer or internet access can visit the programme office at Hai Nyakama near the County Agriculture Department. Staff members are available to assist candidates with the application process.
Programme organisers are encouraging eligible students to apply and share the opportunity with others in the community. They say the initiative aims to help young people grow through education while serving the communities that raised them.
