Kiir Returns to Juba After Regional Election Talks in Kenya and South Africa

(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has returned to Juba following official visits to Kenya and South Africa, where he held discussions on South Sudan’s preparations for the December 2026 general elections, peacebuilding efforts and regional cooperation.

During the visits, President Kiir met Kenyan President William Ruto and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and supporting South Sudan’s electoral process.

According to information from the Office of the President, the discussions focused on mobilizing technical and logistical support for the upcoming elections, as well as advancing regional peace and economic cooperation.

The regional consultations come as South Sudan continues preparations for its first elections under the Revitalized Peace Agreement framework.

Government officials say the engagements underscored the importance of regional partnerships in promoting stability, democratic governance and sustainable development in South Sudan.

President Kiir returned to the capital on Friday following the conclusion of the two-state visit.
