Kiir Launches Election Dialogue Ahead of December Polls

(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Thursday officially launched the Inter-Party Dialogue on Election-Related Matters in Juba, bringing together political parties and key stakeholders to discuss critical issues ahead of South Sudan’s general elections scheduled for December 2026.

The dialogue, held at the National Assembly Hall, attracted a broad spectrum of participants, including representatives of political parties, members of the Revitalized Transitional Government, former Vice Presidents, diplomats, religious leaders, civil society organizations and international partners.

Speaking at the opening, President Kiir underscored the importance of constructive dialogue and consensus-building to ensure a peaceful, credible and inclusive electoral process. The forum is expected to address key electoral challenges and strengthen cooperation among political actors as the country prepares for its first elections since independence.

Among the distinguished international guests attending the event were former Burundian President Domitien Ndayizeye and President of the Community of Sant’Egidio, Marco Impagliazzo, whose presence highlighted regional and international support for South Sudan’s democratic transition.

The inter-party dialogue forms part of ongoing efforts to advance the country’s electoral roadmap and foster national unity as preparations intensify for the December 2026 polls.
