SSRA is urging all stakeholders to treat this process not just as a legal obligation but as a necessary step toward national development and better public services for all citizens/SSRA Portal
(Juba) – The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) has started a major registration campaign for all businesses, service providers and self employed people in Juba City.
The exercise began on 1 July 2025 and is part of SSRA’s plan to improve local tax collection and make the system fairer and more efficient.
To make the process easier, Juba City has been divided into 10 zones, with trained SSRA teams going door to door to register businesses free of charge.
| Zone | Areas Covered |
|---|---|
| Zone 1 | Juba Town, Hai Cinema, Hai Malakal, Malakia, Hai Commercial, Kator, Konyokonyo, Gabat, Hai Amarat, Nimira Talata |
| Zone 2 | Giada, Suk Sita, Atalabara, Lologo, Khor Williang |
| Zone 3 | Jebel Area, Rock City, Nyakuron, Mauna, Checkpoint |
| Zone 4 | Gumbo-Sherikat |
| Zone 5 | Munuki Area |
| Zone 6 | Thongpiny Area |
| Zone 7 | Gudele Area |
| Zone 8 | Mia Saba, Hai Referendum, Eden, New Site |
| Zone 9 | UN Agencies and Embassies |
| Zone 10 | Gurei, Jebel Dinka, Luri |
The SSRA says the registration will help build a proper taxpayer register and allow the government to know which businesses are active in the city.
This will help with better planning and public services. It will also help more people join the formal economy.
| Objective | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Accurate Taxpayer Register | To have an updated list of businesses in Juba |
| Better Compliance Monitoring | To make sure businesses are paying taxes fairly |
| Stronger Planning | To help SSRA make decisions using correct data |
| Improved Services | To use tax information to improve roads, schools and healthcare |
| Fairer Tax System | To treat all taxpayers equally |
The SSRA clearly stated that registration is completely free. No one is allowed to ask for money, and anyone who does so will be reported to the police and prosecuted.
Business owners are advised to only allow SSRA staff with official ID cards marked with the SSRA logo into their premises.
Commissioner General Simon Akuei Deng said this exercise will support South Sudan in collecting more local revenue and becoming less dependent on oil and foreign aid.
He added that every business operator, formal or informal, has a duty to cooperate, give correct information and take part in building a better economy.
The SSRA has asked all Juba residents, especially businesspeople, to work with the teams during this registration period.
