(DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA) – A delegation from the South Sudan Revenue Authority led by Commissioner General Ambassador Moun Deng Ajuet has visited the Dar es Salaam Customs Division to assess operations and strengthen customs administration at the Port of Dar es Salaam.
The visit focused on improving cargo clearance procedures, enhancing coordination of customs operations and reviewing progress on the establishment of a dedicated SSRA customs office at the port.
The inspection follows the signing of a memorandum on customs cooperation between South Sudan and Tanzania that will allocate land for South Sudan at the port.Ambassador Moun Deng Ajuet said the Authority is committed to strengthening its operational presence at the Port of Dar es Salaam and improving efficiency in handling consignments destined for South Sudan:
“We have seen the office and we are going to work together with the Assistant Commissioner who is here in Dar es Salaam.
I just want to confirm that we have an office here at the Port of Dar es Salaam and we are going to work together to establish it, and then integrate it into the customs system in Dar es Salaam.
We have the report, and we are going to act on it and take immediate steps in our office here, and then plan for long term support.”
The Tax Authority said strengthening the customs office at the port is expected to improve coordination, speed up clearance procedures and facilitate the smooth movement of cargo destined for South Sudan.
The Assistant Commissioner for the Dar es Salaam Port Customs Division, Diing Majur, said the operational integration of systems remains key to improving efficiency and cargo tracking.
“The office is not operational because we still do not have the system in place. We have brought it to the attention of the Authority, and we hope it will be treated as an urgent matter because, for us to effectively track our consignments, we must have the system in place,” Mr Majur said.
He added that an integrated system will allow the authority to monitor and manage South Sudan bound cargo more effectively.
Earlier, the SSRA delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in the United Republic of Tanzania.
The delegation was received by Acting Ambassador Gloria John alongside embassy staff at the mission in Dar es Salaam. Brief exchanges were held on matters of mutual institutional cooperation and diplomatic engagement between the two sides.
