(JUBA) – The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) signed a joint communiqué in Tanzania on 22 January 2026 to deepen cooperation between the two revenue administrations.
The agreement was formalised by Commissioner General William Anyuon of SSRA and Commissioner General Yusuph Juma of TRA. Commissioner General Anyuon conveyed greetings from His Excellency Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan, to Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania.
The discussions reflected the longstanding ties between the two countries and the institutional relationship between SSRA and TRA.
Key agreements in the communiqué include the finalisation of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding by February 2026, covering staff training, capacity building, technical exchanges, and institutional strengthening.
The authorities also agreed to improve customs and administrative cooperation to enhance operational efficiency and compliance management.
Trade facilitation initiatives were highlighted to increase cargo volumes to South Sudan through the Ports of Dar es Salaam and Tanga, recognising their strategic importance for the country’s imports and exports.
The communiqué includes measures to prevent dumping of imported goods, as well as plans to identify and establish suitable landing and clearing sites for South Sudan-bound cargo.
Digital systems integration is a priority, with collaboration to link Tanzania’s TANCIS platform with South Sudan’s E-Customs and E-Permit Systems to allow seamless customs processing.
All agreements will be implemented under the Single Customs Territory framework, in line with the East African Community Treaty, reflecting both countries’ commitment to regional trade, stronger institutional ties, and improved customs efficiency.
