(JUBA, CENTRAL EQUATORIA) – The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) officially received laboratory equipment from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through the AMVAT Project on 22 January 2026.
At the handover ceremony, FAO Country Representative Dr. Meshack Malo thanked the current leadership of SSNBS under Hon. Gloria Nyoka and commended the Government of South Sudan for its continued cooperation. He explained that the donation is aimed at strengthening laboratory capacity and supporting effective quality and safety testing.
FAO provided a total of 17 laboratory equipment items, which will be used for various analytical purposes in both the Chemical and Microbiological Laboratories. Dr. Malo also reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue supporting SSNBS in all areas possible.
In her remarks, Hon. Gloria Nyoka Joseph expressed sincere gratitude to FAO for its ongoing support. She also conveyed the appreciation of Hon. Atong Kuol, the National Minister of Trade and Industry, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to other commitments.
Hon. Gloria emphasised that the donated equipment will significantly improve the Bureau’s capacity to safeguard public health, enhance the quality and reliability of testing services, and promote value for money in trade by increasing confidence in test results among traders and other stakeholders.
The standards body said in a statement the donation represents a major step in strengthening South Sudan’s standards and testing systems, supporting safer trade and improved public health across the country.
