(JUBA) – South Sudan and Israel have formalised a new framework for diplomatic engagement with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Consultations in Juba. The agreement was signed on Tuesday morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan, Ambassador Monday Semaya K. Kumba, signed on behalf of the government, while Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sharren Haskel, represented her country.
The MoU sets out a mechanism for regular consultations between the two ministries and other relevant government institutions. It is intended to promote deeper dialogue, enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest and create opportunities for joint initiatives.
Officials from both countries described the agreement as an important step in strengthening bilateral ties, which they say will open new avenues for collaboration in trade, development, technology, and security.
Ambassador Kumba said the document signalled South Sudan’s commitment to building strong and mutually beneficial partnerships on the global stage.
Deputy Minister Haskel noted that Israel values its friendship with South Sudan and looks forward to working together on practical projects that can benefit the citizens of both countries.
The signing is seen as a milestone in the relationship between Juba and Tel Aviv, which have maintained diplomatic ties since South Sudan’s independence in 2011.
It follows a series of engagements aimed at expanding cooperation in economic development, agriculture, water management, and capacity building.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the framework will be used to coordinate future exchanges, high level visits and technical cooperation programmes.
Both governments expressed confidence that the partnership will contribute to peace and stability in the region while creating tangible benefits for their populations.
