(JUBA) – The South Sudan Revenue Authority has called on all taxpayers to ensure that they file and pay their November 2025 tax returns by 15 December 2025. Officials say the date applies to all categories of monthly tax returns and warned that any delays may lead to financial penalties.
In a notice from the Domestic Tax Revenue Division, the Authority advised businesses and individuals to clear any arrears by the same deadline. The reminder covers a range of tax obligations, including personal income tax withholdings on wages, salaries and property rental, as well as taxes related to government contracts, technical fees, dividends, royalties and gaming activities such as lotteries.
The Authority also stressed the importance of sales and excise tax compliance for manufacturers, hotels, bars, restaurants, financial institutions, travel and tour agencies and telecommunication service providers.
Officials pointed out that any pending tax obligations for previous months must also be settled immediately. This includes business profit tax and individual income tax for small business owners, along with any outstanding fees from earlier tax periods.
Taxpayers who owe money under the Domestic Tax Information System were encouraged to make payments through approved commercial banks and to start using the electronic system to file current tax returns without delay.
The notice also warned that businesses that are not registered with the Revenue Authority are operating illegally. Any company or individual without a Tax Identification Number is violating the law under sections 113 and 114 of the Taxation Act 2009, as amended. The Authority urged these businesses to register and operate legally in the South Sudan market.
A summary of the taxes included in the reminder is shown below:
| Type of Tax | Examples of Who Pays |
|---|---|
| Personal Income Tax Withholdings | Employees, rental property owners, contractors |
| Sales and Excise Tax | Manufacturers, hotels, bars, banks, telecommunication firms |
| Business Profit Tax | Sole proprietors and companies |
| Other Revenue Obligations | Dividends, royalties, lotteries and gaming |
The Revenue Authority called on all taxpayers to update their online profiles and keep their registration records accurate. The Commissioner for Domestic Tax Revenue, Chol Paul Kur, said paying taxes is essential for national development and economic stability.
The Authority reaffirmed its goal to build a stronger culture of voluntary tax compliance to support South Sudan’s growth.
