(JUBA) – Officials from the South Sudan Red Cross met Central Equatoria State Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel on Friday to present updates on ongoing humanitarian activities and request continued cooperation from the government.
The delegation included members of the organisation’s Governing Board and senior officials from the Juba Branch. They briefed the Governor on work being carried out in areas affected by flooding along the Nile, particularly in Mangalla and Lado Payam.
Speaking after the meeting, Joseph Lukak Charles, Head of the SSRC Juba Branch, said the organisation is currently focused on disaster response, health services and building community resilience. He said 1,200 households had already received non food relief supplies as part of flood support.
Lukak said the group shared with the Governor the Act of Parliament passed in 2012 that formally established the Red Cross in South Sudan, along with its current strategic plan covering the years 2022 to 2026.
He added that working with government and local authorities was essential to reach people in need more efficiently.
Governor Mujung thanked the Red Cross for what he described as a vital role in helping vulnerable communities. He said the State Government remains committed to supporting humanitarian partners in delivering aid.
According to a statement released by the State Government Press Unit CESGPU, meeting ended with both sides agreeing to continue sharing information and coordinating efforts to ensure that assistance reaches families affected by disasters.
