
Musicians Asked to Push Peace Before South Sudan Polls / PHOTO: State Government Press
(JUBA) – South Sudanese musicians have been urged to use their platforms to promote peace and unity as the country moves towards general elections in December.
Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony met with artists JJD Musica, Gadafi J and Mr. Lengs at the State General Secretariat in Juba on Monday. He told them the music industry has a vital role in shaping society and building social cohesion.
Governor Adil promised the artists his backing as they develop their careers and work for community development. The musicians congratulated the Governor on the trust placed in him by national leaders and pledged their full support in spreading messages of peace, reconciliation and unity through their work.
Two days earlier, on Saturday, Governor Adil joined Vice President Professor James Wani Igga and the Speaker of the National Transitional Legislative Assembly, Joseph Ngere Paciko, at the swearing in of the new Nyepo Community leadership in Juba.
The event marked the completion of the community’s peaceful transition to a new leadership and youth wing structure.
Vice President Igga praised the Nyepo community for holding peaceful elections and called on members to prepare for the national elections in December.
Governor Adil also welcomed the new leaders, urging the community to maintain peace, unity and harmony ahead of the polls. He assured continued support to help all communities across Central Equatoria prepare for the elections.
The Governor commended the Nyepo for practising democracy and asked them to support their leaders and chiefs.
The new Nyepo Community Chairperson, Bramatali Wani Lo-Lipo Lo-Lisi, thanked the community for its trust. He promised to cooperate with the Government and community members to advance peace, unity and development.
Cabinet members also accompanied the Governor to the ceremony.
